Lam Dong: three waterfalls destroyed by development

The Department of Culture and Information of the Central Highlands province of Lam Dong is proposing that the local People’s Committee urge the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism revoke the title of National Landscape of three waterfalls - Lien Khuong, Bao Dai and Gougar.
The waterfalls are located in Duc Trong district, dozens of kilometers from Da Lat City. Lien Khuong and Gougar waterfalls are along National Highway 20 and very convenient to visitors.
The waterfalls are large and part of Central Highlands’ mysterious legends. The landscapes around them are regarded as romantic and they have been recognized as national landscapes for years.
However, the Dai Ninh reservoir’s operation has resulted in the disappearance of Gougar, while Bao Dai is now a small vision of what it was before. Deforestation has dried up the water resources of Lien Khuong.
Locals are asserting that local authorities’ responsibility is to protect National Landscapes, which they consider invaluable assets. It is also of concern how Da Lat – Lam Dong will continue as a famous tourist site after the beauty of its natural scenery has been destroyed.
