Foreign tourists flock to Viet Nam in first days of year

On the threshold of the traditional lunar new year festival (Tet), Ha Noi streets saw a lot of foreign tourist groups and overseas Vietnamese in spite of bitter cold weather.
Almost 1,000 visitors from the Republic of Korea, China, the US, the UK and Japan arrived in Viet Nam on the first day of the year 2008 by air.
The Tourbazar Travel Company of Russia booked a charter flight to carry 290 tourists to Viet Nam for a 10-day winter vocation. “The Russian people consider Viet Nam as a hidden charm,” Director of the Tourbazar office in Viet Nam Natalia Zavgorodnaya said.
During these days, a lot of foreign tourists went to Viet Nam by sea. Recently, Rhapsody of the Seas ship of the US Royal Caribbean brought 2,000 visitors to central Nha Trang and Thua Thien-Hue provinces. The firm said it will bring 16,000 tourists to Viet Nam by March.
Foreign visitors usually choose tours around Ha Noi and to nearby areas like Dong Ky wood village and Bat Trang pottery village. Bat Trang received hundreds of foreigners a day.
While foreigners rushed to Viet Nam , local people like to make holidays abroad during Tet, which will begin on February 7. The number of people registered for tours of foreign countries increased between 20-25 percent over the same period last year.
During this year’s season, Vietnamese tourists like to visit China, the Republic of Korea and Japan to discover their culture in stead of visiting Thailand , Malaysia and Singapore.
To meet the local demand, tourism companies have introduced various tours abroad at competitive prices. Vietravel company has so far received orders for abroad tours from 3,800 customers.
