HCMC “Taste of the World” food fest kicks off
The second annual “Taste of the World” food festival celebrating Vietnamese and international cuisines takes place at Van Thanh Tourist Park in Ho Chi Minh City from today to December 2.
Some 30 city restaurants and hotels will present local and foreign visitors with hundreds of dishes from Viet Nam and more than 17 other countries, including China, France, Germany, India, Australia, Mexico, Spain, Thailand, Indonesia, Japan and Korea.
Highlights of the event are to include new Vietnamese wines, a “Pho Viet” on the nation’s ubiquitous rice-noodle soup, cooking demonstrations by the Saigon Professional Chefs Club, a cocktail performance by the Saigon Bartenders Club, other culinary presentations and game shows.
There will be also musical performances by Vietnamese and overseas entertainers and a traditional Russian wedding at 7 p.m., December 1.
The organizing board and the Cau Tre Food Processing Factory are to construct a giant fried spring roll by 200 chefs from the Saigon Professional Chefs’ Club.
The spring roll weighs in at 36 meters in length and 30cm across and will be presented at the show at 2 p.m., December 1.
The festival is co-organized by the HCMC departments of Tourism, and External Relations and the Saigontourist Holding Company, and is expected to attract some 15,000 visitors.
